Kam targets National Cupcake Championship success

One of Catermasters' talented chef managers is set to come face-to-face with 'The Great British Bake Off' judge, Mary Berry, after winning a place in the final of this year's National Cupcake Championships.

Kam Sokhi heads up the Catermasters team at our DuPont unit in Stevenage and has been rewarded with a place in the last 15 of the 'themed' category after scoring well in the opening round of the baking contest.

She will now do battle in the final round of the competition at the Cake International Show in Birmingham on 9th November and her cupcakes will be judged by baking guru Mary Berry herself. "I've got a real passion for cakes and it took me nine hours to create the cupcakes that I entered into the first round," Kam explained. "I'll be up against 47 other bakers for the overall national championship title.

"The competition's going to be tough but if I don't get any further it will have been a real achievement to get as far as I have and to have my work recognised at the highest level."

The decorations on the cupcakes that saw Kam through to the final round of the contest were themed around food and included a saucepan of spaghetti and meatballs, as well as a hot dog and a milkshake.
